If you’re into those "opposites attract" stories but want something with a bit more of a comedic bite, Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku!? is definitely the 2026 anime to watch. It’s basically a rom-com that pokes fun at high school cliques and the weird "unwritten rules" of who can talk to who.
The story follows a hardcore otaku who is convinced that the popular "gals" (gyarus) in his class are a different species. He tries to stay under the radar, but then he crosses paths with one of the most popular girls, and things get weirdly complicated. She’s supposedly "mean" or "too cool" for him, but the more they hang out, the more it turns out that their labels are just a bunch of nonsense.
It’s less about some deep, dramatic love story and more about the awkward, funny, and sometimes wholesome interactions between two people who should have nothing in common. It’s colorful, fast-paced, and honestly just a fun "feel-good" show that doesn't take itself too seriously. If you like My Dress-Up Darling but with a bit more of a slapstick comedy vibe, you’ll enjoy this one.
